Home Remedies for Canker Sores

When you have canker sores, you feel discomfort and pain especially when chewing food, making demand for instant relief such as home remedies for mouth sores.

There are many home remedies that can give you relief to reduce discomfort created by or canker sores or mouth sores. Canker sores or mouth sores may be caused by minor injuries in the mouth such as a slip of the toothbrush and also from spicy foods and citrus fruits. Milk of magnesia and benadryl

A mixture of equal amounts of milk of magnesia and Benadryl is one example of one of many home remedies a dentist may suggest.

Milk of magnesia contains ingredients that can coat wet tissues of the mouth while Benadryl has substances that can serve as a mild topical anesthetic and antihistamine to reduce inflammation. The reliable mixture should be applied directly to the canker sore using a cotton swab but be careful not to swallow the mixture since this can cause numbing.

Cayenne pepper

Another home remedy is the use of cayenne pepper containing capsaicin which cancels the sensitivity of the nerves that cause pain. Cayenne pepper is also contained in some candies made to relieve canker sore pain as well as mouth sores resulting from radiation and chemotherapy.

Styptic pencil

A styptic pencil can also provide relief from pain created by mouth sores by numbing the nerve endings leading to the canker sore. However, styptic pencil only temporarily reduces the pain. Be careful also when brushing your teeth so as not to irritate canker sores before and after applying of such remedy.

Aloe vera

A small amount of aloe juice from the juice inner portion of the leaf of the aloe plant can be rinsed over the canker sore for a number of times daily until the canker sores are gone.

Mouth wash

A combination of 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and two ounces of hydrogen peroxide can serve as a mouth rinse and is considered a typical home remedy. Rinsing your mouth with lukewarm water containing diluted salt can also be a cure and if your are brave enough you can directly apply a small amount of salt to your mouth sore.

Sage

Sage is considered good for canker sores

Another home remedy option is the use of sage usually needed to spice up a turkey meal. The herb is said to effectively calm up a very strong or angry canker sore. The herb leaves can  also be used as a mouth rinse after being mixed with boiling water.
